Fellowship Database

Instructions for Use

The easiest way to navigate each table is by applying filters. Filters can be added within specific columns by selecting the drop-down menu, or applied using the Filter button at the top of the table (listed under the tabs).

Important: When applying filters, always include “Unspecified/Open” or “Unspecified/Other” in each filtered category to receive the maximum number of relevant results.

When setting filters, users should balance specificity with broader requirements.

For example, if you must carry out your fellowship in China, select “China” under “Location for Fellowship.” You should also select “Unspecified/Open,” as fellowships for which you may be eligible may permit research in China without requiring it, such as the Fulbright.

Similarly, under “Discipline,” a user in the literature field should select “Literature,” but should also select “Humanities (general)” and “Unspecified/Open.”

Non-US citizens will particularly want to filter by National Eligibility, again being sure to include “Unspecified/Open.”

The category “International (w/ restrictions)” means that most citizenships are permitted, but one or more specific citizenships may be prohibited. This is particularly common with government-sponsored fellowships, which may restrict citizens of the sponsoring country.

Users may also want to filter by Academic Status, especially those who will be PhD candidates (represented as “ABD”) by the fellowship’s start date.

MA students may also find this filter helpful for identifying fellowships for which they are eligible.

If you would like to submit a fellowship for inclusion in the table, please use the Fellowship Submission Form.
